Over 1,000 primary and secondary students were kung fu dancing at the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade yesterday to kick start a six-day Chinese
Kungfu x Dance Carnival as organizers aim to highlight the city's strength as a center for cultural exchange between the East and West.
Apart from the kung-fu dancing, the festivities also feature numerous stage performances and thematic exhibitions.
The carnival's opening ceremony featured Andrew Pong King-fung, who comes from a prominent wushu family, who demonstrated Bai He style kun-gfu.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said: "By showcasing the essence of martial arts and dance, the carnival presents the unique charm of Chinese culture in a novel way to citizens and tourists alike."
"Kung fu Baby," a martial arts demonstration performed by kindergartners, also drew a lot of attention.
Other events from the carnival include a daily martial-arts film screening, regular kung fu performance sessions and a Hanfu catwalk show.
The carnival is open until July 14 with no entrance fee.
