A student at East Ridge High School in Woodbury found a 25-year-old man lying unconscious near the school’s football field Tuesday afternoon.

The student found the man during dismissal time, school officials wrote in an email sent to families. The man, who required assistance from emergency personnel, was not a student or staff member at East Ridge High School, according to the email.

“Because of the time of the day, some students saw emergency personnel at school, so I wanted to inform you directly,” Principal James Smokrovich wrote.

The man, who was found about 3 p.m., was treated by Woodbury EMS and transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he remains in critical condition, Woodbury police Cmdr. Tom Ehrenberg said.

At about 4:30 p.m., another caller reported finding a crashed black 2012 BMW a short distance away from where the man was found, Ehrenberg said.

It was determined that the two incidents were related, and police are investigating, he said.
