1 July 2024, Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR and ITS Education Asia invite motivated Asia Pacific high school students to apply for the “2024 Youth Ambassador Asia Pacific Programme.” The programme will run for 8 weeks and focus on the theme “Local Solutions for Global Challenges: Youth Empowerment and Community Impact''. This training programme aims to deepen the student’s understanding of the SDGs, strengthen their entrepreneurship skills, and assist them in developing ideas to combat community problems. The training programme will end with final presentations from the students of their self-directed capstone projects to implement these projects in their local communities to drive positive change. The application deadline is 21 September 2024 at 6 pm HKT. The programme is open to a maximum of 5 students per country of ages 14 to 17 who are attending a high school located in the Asia Pacific region. It will occur online for 8 consecutive Saturdays, culminating in a final virtual graduation event.

24 June 2024, Geneva, Switzerland - In an effort to address the global crisis in access to safe and affordable surgical care, the United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub (SURGhub) was launched in June 2023. This open-access platform aims to equip the current and future surgical workforce with lifesaving skills. A particular focus is laid on the workforce in low-resource settings.
24 June 2024, Geneva, Switzerland – UNITAR and FAO are launching the third edition of their joint online course titled "Trade and Food Security" from October 6 to November 2, 2024. Conducted exclusively in Arabic, the course aims to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in Arabic-speaking countries to develop and implement evidence-based trade policies that support food security.

20 June 2024, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division of Prosperity welcomed 917 professionals from Asia and Pacific Island Countries to join the inaugural webinar of Leaders for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Sea and Human Security on 20 June 2024 through a Zoom meeting. The programme aims to provide government officials and activists in Pacific Small Island and Asian countries with skills, knowledge, and capacity to enhance and stabilize climate, economic stability, food security, and maritime security. Another fundamental purpose of the programme is to establish a network and collaboration mechanisms among fellow leaders from Asia and the Pacific.

07 June 2024, Paris, France – On 3 June 2024, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) unveiled its ground-breaking e-learning programme to strengthen systems to counter money-laundering and the financing of terrorism in Colombia. The programme was developed in close collaboration with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, the Financial Information and Analysis Unit of Colombia (UIAF), and the University of Antioquia.
