Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff tested positive for COVID-19, his office announces

WASHINGTON - Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff tested positive for COVID-19 after “experiencing mild symptoms,” his office announced Sunday.

“He is fully vaccinated and three times boosted. He is currently asymptomatic, continuing to work remotely, and remaining away from others at home,” his communications director Liza Acevedo said in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, yesterday, the Vice President was tested for COVID-19. She tested negative and remains asymptomatic,” Acevedo added. Vice President Kamala Harris has a busy week ahead, traveling to Nevada, Texas and North Carolina for campaign events, according to a news release from her office.

Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff promotes the Biden Administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law during a tour of the Soo Locks on Friday, May 17, 2024 in Sault Ste. Marie.

When Emhoff contracted COVID-19 in 2022, he told McClatchy that he had to stay in isolation for 10 days away from Harris. He added that he was “very careful” while symptomatic.

“Because, imagine not wanting to give — not only my wife, but the vice president of the United States — COVID,” he told McClatchy. “She fortunately did not get it.”
