It's bombs away for Alec Bohm in Arlington, Texas.

The Phillies third baseman became the first National Player to announce he will compete in the Home Run Derby as part of the 2024 MLB All-Star Game festivities.

Bohm will join Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson as the first two participants named in the derby. Other participants have yet to be announced.

“Every year, I feel like as a kid growing up, that’s kind of the cool thing to watch,” Bohm told MLB.com Friday before the Phillies game against the Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta. "“I don’t know if I’ll ever get another chance to do it again.”

Alec Bohm named All-Star starter

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm hits an RBI-double against the St. Louis Cardinals during the 10th inning Monday, April 8, 2024, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Phillies won 5-3.

The accolades keep coming for the Phillies hitter after he was selected by fans as the National League starting third baseman for the Midsummer Classic. It's Bohm first All-Star Game selection.

On the season, Bohm was hitting .296 with 11 home runs coming into Friday. He was first in the NL and third in MLB with 70 RBIs before entering this weekend's divisional matchup against the Atlanta Braves.

Along with Bohm, Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper and shortstop Trea Turner also were named All-Star starters

Phillies in the Home Run Derby

Bohm will join an exclusive list of Phillies to take part in the derby, including two players who have won.

Kyle Schwarber

The last Phillies player to participate was Kyle Schwarber, who hit 20 homers in a losing effort to Albert Pujols in the first round of the 2022 derby at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Bobby Abreu

Not known for hitting home runs, outfielder Bobby Abreu stunned the baseball world by hitting a then-record 41 home runs at Comerica Park in Detroit in 2005. He was first Phillies player to win the derby.

Ryan Howard

First baseman Ryan Howard carried the title the following season, hitting 23 home runs and hitting beating the Mets' David Wright at the 2006 derby at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Howard would go on to hit 58 homers on the season and win NL MVP.

Howard would return again in 2007 despite not receiving an invitation to the game in San Francisco. This time, he only hit 3 home runs.

Chase Utley

Second baseman Chase Utley hit 5 homers at the 2008 derby at old Yankee Stadium, and then followed that up a few months later by helping the team capture a World Series title.

Rhys Hoskins

Former first baseman and fan favorite Rhys Hoskins wasn't in the All-Star Game, but he put on a show at the derby. He lost 21-20 to then-Cub Schwarber in a second-round slugfest at the 2018 derby at Nationals Park.

Jim Thome

The first Phillies player to take part in the derby was slugger Jim Thome, who hit 3 homers in a short stay at the 2004 derby in Houston.
