Beryl, which reached tropical storm status late Friday, June 29, was rapidly strengthening into a hurricane Saturday, June 29, and on a path that would take it into the Windwards. A hurricane watch was in effect Saturday, June 29, for Barbados and much of the Windwards, and the NHC was predicting a path that would take the cyclone over Jamaica late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Beryl is projected to become a major hurricane with winds of at least 115 mph, and the storm's track is expected to bring it south of Jamaica, which is about 620 miles south of West Palm Beach.

While several tropical forecasters were calling for this week to be quiet, Mother Nature had other plans.
