ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) - Hurston Waldrep got the call that he was promoted to Triple A after just nine starts on the season. The Braves top prospect made his debut with the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday, June 2. He had a season-high 11 strikeouts with 1 walk through 6 innings of his Triple-A debut, with 5 hits and 3 runs allowed including a 2-run homer. 64 strikes/89 pitches.

The Thomasville alum was selected 24th overall in last year’s MLB draft by his home state team, the Atlanta Braves. Waldrep has shown his high skill level at every level since he entered the professional realm.

It’s been a rollercoaster through the Braves system for Waldrep, including one start in Triple-A last year. Atlanta sent the pitcher back down to the Mississippi Braves, Atlanta’s Double-A affiliate to start the season.

Now just nine starts into the 2024 season, he’s ready for his return to Triple-A.

Waldrep has pitched 49.1 innings this season earning a 2.92 ERA with 48 strikeouts. In the month of May, he finished with a 1.19 ERA over five starts. He had 31 strikeouts with 7 walks. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any start since April 20th.

Hurston Waldrep made his Tripe-A debut against Norfolk Tide.
