JEFFEROSONVILLE, In. (WAVE) - Inside Taylor’s Cereal Bowl Kitchen, the first thing you’ll probably notice is the variety of ice cream and cereal toppings. If you look a little closer, you’ll find what makes this ice cream shop atypical.

Toys, games, interactive images and other vessels of creativity fill the dining space. It’s what got shop owner Marshall Pence a ‘sensory inclusion certification’ that he’s is really proud of.

Pence said his son is on the autism spectrum and he knows his brain doesn’t work quite the same way as others. Now his shop is an oasis for neurodivergent children and adults.

The Dreams with Wings Summer Camp, which serves kids ages seven to 21 years old with Autism and Down Syndrome, made a stop there Thursday. It’s the second summer they’ve visited and Pence loved it.

“With [Dreams with Wings], it’s like they just have big gigantic arms and they just hug all the kids at once,” said Pence, “and that’s the reason it fits with out persona so good, because we’re family oriented and they treat those children like family. I saw that and was blown away.”

The Dreams with wings summer camp is a seven week program. Their biggest annual fundraiser is coming up later this year. Learn more about it here.
