simulate

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic

   Done: simulates (P12328) (Talk and documentation)
Descriptionthe element imitates or makes the value of the property appear real
Data typeItem
Example 1artificial heart (Q126888) --> heart (Q1072)
Example 2firefighting training (Q1308851) --> firefighting (Q897825)
Example 3truck simulation video game (Q19683436) --> truck (Q43193)

Motivation

I'm very surprised that such a property doesn't exist. In fact, I've noticed that the "does / simulates" functionality of certain elements (including those given as examples) can't be clearly described using the available properties. That's why I'm proposing this property. YotaMoteuchi (talk) 00:47, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

It can be subtle, but for me, represents (P1268) is a property that indicates what the element represents (among the examples given, the Apple logo represents Apple and a literary agent represents a writer), not what it simulates (the Apple logo can't simulate Apple, it's just a logo ; on the other hand, we know which brand it is when we see its logo; the same goes for the literary agent, whose role is not to replace or simulate a writer, but simply to represent him to publishers and the press...) I hope this clarification answers your question and better explains why I want to create this property. YotaMoteuchi (talk) 19:17, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can kind of see the difference now, thanks! -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 14:39, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're totally right! I will correct this. Thanks for your advice! YotaMoteuchi (talk) 05:29, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
