MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Baseball is back as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans open its 25th season at the ballpark Friday night.

Opening weekend at Pelicans Ballpark is starting with a bang.

There will be a fireworks extravaganza after the games on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, the first 1,000 fans in line will get free tickets.

You can also expect some changes as you head to watch the birds.

The ballpark is now cashless. The general manager, Kristin Call, said the decision aims to speed up lines and get you back to your seat faster.

Fans who do not carry debit or credit can exchange cash for “Splash Cash” at the box office or guest services.

You’ll be able to use the “Splash Cash” at concession stands, the pro shop and the box office.

The ballpark is also offering new items on its menu, including a chicken sandwich Call strongly recommends.

The Pelicans open the season Friday night against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.

The gates open at 5:30 p.m. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
