Michigan controls the game beating the Huskers 34-3

Omaha, Neb. (WOWT) - Michigan led wire-to-wire beating Nebraska 31-3. With Chubba Purdy making his second Nebraska start the Huskers received the opening kickoff, moved the ball 36 yards before punting away. The Wolverines on their first possession went 80 yards in 12 plays to take a 7-0 led with a Blake Corum two-yard touchdown.

Following three consecutive three and outs by the Huskers offense, Michigan put together a second quarter 66 yard drive. The Wolverines had runs of 5, 7, 5 and 12 yards that opened up the passing game. There were only two Michigan passes in the possession for a total of 37 yards, including a pay action touchdown pass to Ronnie Bell. Wolverines led 14-0.

Nebraska answered with a 12 play 55 yard drive, that ended with a Huskers field goal, but Chubba Purdy left the game with an injury after a scramble down to the Michigan 15, Logan Smothers came in. Then on the kickoff, Mark Whipple was hit on the Nebraska sideline. Whipple has been dealing a leg injury through the season, he wore a boot to the game. He moved up to the box called plays in the second half. Michigan kicked a field goal in the final seconds of the first half to lead 17-3 at the break.

Third quarter, J.J. McCarthy scored a three-yard rushing touchdown capping off a ten play drive that featured nine runs. 56 of the 65 yards were on the ground, Michigan showed it’s advantage up front, the three yard touchdown run was the worst play for the Wolverines in the drive, they led 24-3. The Wolverines scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter, they actually recovered their own fumble in the endzone for a 31-3 lead.
