GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) - A mother and her 15-year-old son were killed in a double murder-suicide in South Carolina, according to police.

Police say officers were called to a home on Water Oak Drive around 9:43 p.m. Saturday for a report of a man with a gun.

Police dispatch was told by a third-party caller that the man was intoxicated and holding hostages at gunpoint.

Once on scene, officers surrounded the house, and hostage negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein.

Goose Creek Police SWAT made their way into the home and found two adults and a juvenile deceased with gunshot wounds, Capt. James Emerson said in a release.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the other two victims as 43-year-old Tracy McEvoy and her teen son William Allen McEvoy Jr. Both were residents of Goose Creek.

The coroner’s office confirmed that all three died as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated the crime was domestic.

Emerson said the investigation is ongoing.
