OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Some 6 News viewers brought a concerning sight on the north edge of Omaha to our attention this week.

A wooden pole is hanging over Blair High Road, also known as Nebraska Highway 133, at State Street. It’s apparently been looming over the right turn lane on Blair High for several days.

People turning onto State have to drive directly underneath the pole.

A spokesperson with the Nebraska Department of Transportation tells 6 News this set up is a safety precaution while OPPD installs power lines.

The boom lift and the wooden pole are positioned this way intentionally, to prevent the lines from falling on the road in case of an accident.

NDOT says this is not unusual, but it is unusual that it has been over the road for this long -- they say it’s likely because of this project’s size. Lines are going in between about 96th and 114th Streets.

The boom lift and the wooden pole will be removed once the power lines are clipped onto the larger metal poles. That is expected to be completed Saturday.
