OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Friday and Saturday are both 6 First Alert Weather Days due to the potential for several rounds of strong to severe storms.

A large storm system will be moving out into the Plains and the Midwest Thursday night into Friday. That system will likely spark thunderstorms to our southwest in Kansas and Oklahoma before rolling our way later Thursday night into Friday. The severe weather risk on Thursday will be highest across central and southern Kansas down into northwestern Texas. If any of these storms can make it into our area, it would likely be after 10pm.

Storms likely make a move into E Nebraska and W Iowa between 10PM and midnight with a few possible rounds of storms through early Friday morning... the latest model runs are showing mainly disorganized storm chances up until 2AM... around 2AM we’ll look out for a line of more organized and potentially stronger storms. These may linger later in the morning that previously expected and it could still be storming throughout the AM commute.

Then the rest of Friday morning will be quieter with just a few showers as the strong storms move east by mid to late morning.

A second round of stronger storms is likely to develop sometime mid to late afternoon Friday. There is still a little uncertainty on exactly how quickly the front will move through and spark these storms but just know that they will all have the chance to become severe with wind, hail and tornadoes possible. These likely get going W of the Metro around 2PM and move E quickly; they could be over W Iowa by 5-6PM.

The risk level has increased to a level 3 for much of the area. All modes of severe weather are possible with these individual storms. They should be fairly spotty; the overall coverage and potential for heavy rain is fairly low with this round at the moment.

After calming down Friday evening and into the first half of our Saturday, storms look to develop once again by the evening. This threat has been drifting further north into our area over the past day, putting us at risk for severe weather then too.

The highest chances come after 5 PM along and south of Interstate 80. This does mean that the forecast looks like it will hold out alright for the Spring Game in Lincoln; however, you will want to stay weather aware if you stay around after the game.

Once again, storms will develop south and west of the metro, then move northeast through the evening. All modes of severe weather (including tornadoes, hail and gusty winds) will be possible with these storms. Rainfall could also be heavy with these individual storms.

Scattered storms are likely on Sunday as well and some of those could potentially get strong; however, this will be dependent on how much the system moves over the coming days. Stay alert with the changing details of this busy weekend of weather.
