OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - In what started as a social media post from Crieghton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott asking center Ryan Kalkbrenner for help on December 4th when Kansas comes to play CU in Omaha, resulted in a canceled honeymoon and Kalkbrenner formally announcing he was returning to Creighton.

The back-to-back-to-back BIG EAST Defensive player told his fiance, and former Creighton women’s basketball standout, Rachael Saunders, to cancel their honeymoon plans and then proceeded to make his official announcement on X.

Kalbrenner’s announcement comes just a day after his name was listed as an early entrant in the NBA draft.

The senior made his decision to return to Creighton a whole month earlier than he did last year when Kalkbrenner had also tested the NBA waters.

This past season, Kalkbrenner averaged 17.3 points per game, 7.6 boards per game, and tallied 107 total blocks.

Kalkbrenner returns as the Bluejay to have played in the most NCAA tournament games in program history. The seven-foot-one center has played in 11 NCAA Tournament games, eight of which were victories.
