OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The numerous rounds of storms that we have seen over the past week has us well ahead of schedule for the month of May.

With the round of storms that moved through Monday evening, over half an inch fell in Omaha while other parts of the viewing area picked up 1-3″ of rain.

Through the end of May 6th, we had already seen 2.23″ of rain fall at Eppley, the official measuring site for Omaha.

The average amount of rain for this time frame is 0.73″.

Overall, we average 4.66″ of rain for the entire month of May; that means that we are already almost halfway to that total in less than one week!

January started the year with 0.88″ of precipitation falling, 117% of average for that month.

We dried out significantly in February with only 0.10″ falling, 11% of average.

March had more precipitation than normal with 2.14″ of precipitation, 120% of average.

But we were well short of average again in April with the 2.25″ that fell representing 71% of our average for the month.

For the year overall through May 6th, we have 7.48″ for the year; that puts us above our average through that date, which is 7.21″.

The new Drought Monitor update will come out on Thursday morning and it will likely have more improvements in the area.

However, the calmer forecast that we have will definitely be appreciated by many after several rounds of severe weather, and it will also give us a chance to soak in that recent moisture.
