OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Four months after playing in the Pro Volleyball Federation’s inaugural match at the CHI Health Center, the Omaha Supernovas were crowned the first-ever PVF champions in the same arena after sweeping the Grand Rapids rise 25-13, 26-24, 25-22.

The Supernovas kept the momentum from their reverse sweep of the San Diego Mojo in Wednesday’s semifinal and pulled together the team’s third sweep of the month and only sixth of the season.

Olympian Bethania de la Cruz led Omaha’s offense with 13 kills on a .423 clip along with her league-leading 35th ace. Coming off her 30-kill performance against San Diego, outside hitter Stephanie Samedy tallied 13 kills on a .346 hitting percentage. Team captain Brooke Nuneviller also reached double-digit kills;s with 12 along with 15 digs.

“It almost doesn’t feel real because a sweep is so crazy with such a talented Grand Rapids team like that. And I think every single set, every single point we looked each other in the eyes and we were and we reminded ourselves that we have to keep pushing,” said Nuneviller after the match. “I’ve never been a part of a more incredible team and I’m glad we get this fairytale ending.”

Setter Sydney Hilley was awarded Postseason MVP and a $10,000 bonus for her contributions off the bench. The former Badger dished 40 assists and six digs in the Supernovas’ three sets against Grand Rapids.

In addition to a championship trophy and apparel, the Supernovas won a one million dollar check to be split amongst the players.
