OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Creighton University head baseball coach Ed Servais says next season will be his last at the helm of the Bluejays.

Servais has just finished his 21st season with Creighton, having been with the program for over 27 years.

“My career is coming to a close and this allows for our student-athletes to develop a relationship with the next head coach, while maintaining the culture and commitment we’ve worked so hard to create.”

Since assuming the head coach role prior to the 2004 season, Servais has become the Bluejays’ all-time wins leader with a record of 678-404-1 under his belt. He had previously served as an assistant coach with the team for six seasons, between 1998 and 2003.

In that time, Servais has earned Conference Coach of the Year six times -- four in the Missouri Valley Conference and two in the Big East -- and brought the team to 15 30-plus win seasons, along with five trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Jays scored a 35-17 record this season, including 28 non-conference wins, topping the NCAA standings. His 120 Big East wins lead the conference since Creighton joined before the 2014 season.

“I was lucky in life. A lot of guys don’t find stuff that they’re passionate about,” Servais told reporters Monday afternoon. “I was able to find something that I was passionate about as a young person and was able to do it for 40 years. I’m grateful for all of the folks that gave me the opportunity and I’ve worked hard not to let Creighton down.”

Creighton says a national search will begin promptly to name a coach-in-waiting as part of the 2025 staff before taking over the head role beginning that summer.

“He’s done it the right way,” McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom said in a release. “Not only has he led a winning program, but he’s recruited, developed and helped graduate outstanding young men who are tremendous representatives of Creighton. It is important to me to celebrate Ed’s outstanding years of service to Creighton, while also hiring a coach who can help us have a banner year in 2025 -- one that will lead the next era of Bluejay Baseball.”
