OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Creighton’s basketball facilities were abuzz Friday morning for the Bluejays sixth annual Abilities Camp.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as students from the physical therapy department hosted the event. The Abilities Camp allows campers with special needs to enjoy a morning of basketball activities.

“It means a lot to me to interact with the kids who don’t usually get to do things like this,” said Jamiya Neal. The senior guard transferred to Creighton from Arizona State in April. “It was a good event for them and a good event for me.”

The camp held special meaning for incoming freshman Ty Davis, who arrived on campus this weekend. His cousin Miles, who has Down syndrome, came from Knoxville, TN with his family to participate.

“He had a really good time and I had a fun time working it as well.”

Bluejays assistant coach Steve Merfeld organizes the event each year along with Lisa Black from Creighton’s physical therapy department.
