6 First Alert Weather Day: Severe storm potential Saturday late afternoon to evening
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Saturday is a 6 First Alert Weather Day for the threat of severe storms Saturday in the afternoon to early evening hours.
The day will start with lingering showers and storms from overnight Friday night.
Those will not be severe and will wrap up before 10 AM.
After that, if clearing takes place and instability builds ahead of a warm front’s arrival in the afternoon, storms could begin to fire by 4 PM. A 2 out of 5 severe risk is expected for most of E Nebraska and W Iowa in the late afternoon to evening.
The window for strong storms lasts through about 10 PM and all forms of severe weather are possible.
The timing of this does not play out well for those heading to the CWS on Saturday! Game one is likely dry but watch for developing storms as it wraps up. Game 2 could see impacts or delays due to storms in the area.
The main threats with any scattered storms would be gusty winds that could exceed 60 miles per hour and hail that could get larger than one inch in diameter.
However, though it is a low risk, the tornado threat is not zero.
