Crews working to clear ‘portables’ at Omaha schools this summer
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - There’s a “bit of mess” outside of Buffett Middle School in northwest Omaha.
Crews are removing cottages — which some refer to as “portables” — outside the school, located near 144th and Ames streets. Insulation, paper, and other things could be seen strewn about as work was underway on Friday morning.
Omaha Public Schools said it’s likely residents will see more of this through the summer as the district removes cottages at several schools.
The buildings are no longer need due to renovations. That was the promise after several school bonds were approved in recent years.
Removing the temporary buildings will take several weeks, and the district promises to leave the job sites clean and clear.
