OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Overnight showers and thunderstorms rolling across northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa, mainly north of the Omaha metro, have faded away by sunrise leaving clearing skies and humid conditions. Partly sunny skies will continue for the morning hours, allowing temperatures to quickly warm back into the mid-80s by 10 to 11am. A cold front will be moving through the area this afternoon, but high temperatures should top out around 90 degrees before that front moves through.

The cold font will move through the area between 2 and 5pm, switching winds from the south to the northwest. An isolated storm or two is possible along the front, but chances in the Omaha metro area very low. Storm chances will increase as the front pushes to the southeast of the metro, but higher storm chances over central and southern Iowa into northwest Missouri. Behind the front, some slightly cooler and less humid air should filter in for the evening. That will help temperatures to cool a little for the College World Series, with some less humid air by the end of the game. Thankfully, we should not see any storms in the area during the game.

The lower humidity should allow temperatures to fall into the low and mid-60s for Sunday morning, a more comfortable start to the day. However, we should see lots of sunshine all day long, which will mean a quick warm-up. Temperatures should once again climb to around 90 degrees by the afternoon in the metro, with low 90s for areas to the west of Omaha toward Lincoln and Columbus. The humidity will be a little lower for the afternoon, but still noticeable.

Some of the warmest weather so far this summer is expected for Monday and Tuesday. Highs both days should reach the low and mid-90s for the metro, with some areas potentially climbing into the upper 90s. With the thick humidity in place, the afternoon heat index will likely top out between 100 and 105 degrees both days. A cold front moving through Tuesday evening could bring some spotty storms, and then some minor relief from the heat for the second half of next week.
