OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - You’ve probably seen the tents popping up around town -- and that means one thing: Firework season is upon us.

City ordinances vary when and where fireworks can be shot off. Here’s a list of metro-area ordinances:

The City of Omaha allows fireworks to be sold between June 28 and July 4 with a city-issued permit. City code permits fireworks to be discharged between July 2 and 4, from Noon to 11 p.m. each day, no exceptions -- including inclement weather. Violators are subject to fines of $300 for the first offense, up to $500 for the third and subsequent offenses.

Papillion residents may discharge fireworks between June 25 and July 3 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. On July 4, the hours are extended from 8 a.m. to Midnight. Papillion Police remind you firework complaints should not be dialed in to 911; call PPD directly at (402) 597-2035.

Bellevue residents may discharge fireworks between June 25 and July 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, except for 8 a.m. to Midnight on the 4th. To file complaints, call Sarpy County’s non-emergency line at (402) 593-4111.

Council Bluffs residents are permitted to discharge fireworks July 3-6, from Noon to 11 p.m. daily. Fireworks must not be discharged in C-3 or C-4 Commercial Districts or within 50 feet of a structure or another person. If Pottawattamie County is placed under a burn ban, firework use is prohibited. Violators will be charged and fined no less than $250.

Gretna city code permits the discharge of fireworks between June 25 and July 4 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with the exception of 10 a.m. to Midnight on the 4th.

Valley residents may purchase and discharge fireworks between June 25 and July 4 from 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. Those lighting fireworks must be at least 16 years of age; children between 12 and 16 years old may light fireworks only with direct supervision of an adult no younger than 19.

Waterloo municipal code allows for fireworks to be sold and discharged between June 24 and July 5 each year.

Ralston city code allows for firework discharge between June 25 and July 3 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and 9 a.m. and Midnight on the 4th. Firework sales are permitted during those same dates.

Those in rural areas and SIDs in Sarpy County, along with the City of Springfield, may discharge fireworks from June 25 and July 3 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to Midnight on the 4th.

The City of La Vista allows fireworks to be sold between June 28 and July 4 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Discharge is permitted from June 28 to July 2 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Hours on July 3 and 4 are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
