If you are planning on attending the final game of the College World Series this evening, plan on the intense heat continuing throughout the game. There will be some relief later in the game as the sun gets lower in the sky, but the heat index will likely be 100 to 105 for the majority of the game. The heat should be the only concern weather-wise, with the forecast remaining free of any rain or storms.

Tuesday is also a 6 First Alert Weather Day due to the continued heat. An increase in clouds may keep temperatures sightly lower compared to Monday afternoon, but it will still be very warm. Highs temperatures should reach the low to mid-90s. With the humidity still in place, heat index levels will once again reach 100 degrees, and may climb as high as 105 degrees by early evening.

The intense heat will happen before a cold front pushes late in the day and brings some relief from the heat but also a storm chance to the area. Spotty storms are possible as early as 5pm, but are more likely later in the evening. If storms are able to develop, a few could be strong with highs winds and some hail. Behind the front, we get some cooler air for a couple days with highs in the 80s on Wednesday which should be very very comfortable! Rain chances return on Thursday, may even keep highs in the 70s.

After all the rain that fell to our north and the potential for more, you’ll want to keep an eye on the flooding risk along the Missouri River in our area. The potential is there to rival 2019 as it could lead to some interstate closures in some of the same spots along I-680 and I-29. You can follow the latest on the flooding this week here.
