Omaha Salvation Army opens cooling centers amid hot, humid conditions

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - As excessive heat and humidity prompt two 6 First Alert Weather Days for Monday and Tuesday, The Salvation Army is opening three cooling centers in Omaha to allow those needing to stay cool a place to go.

Sal Army personnel will be at the following locations at the denoted times both Monday and Tuesday:

  • Kroc Center at 28th & Y Streets -- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • North Corps at 2424 Pratt Street -- 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Citadel Corps at 3738 Cuming Street -- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additionally, the Siena Francis House at 18th and Nicholas will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for those experiencing a housing crisis who are not checked into any emergency shelter or other housing program. To reach staff, dial (402) 341-1821 and press 0 during operating hours.

Cold bottled water and air-conditioned spaces will be available for anyone seeking relief from the heat.
