Missouri River levels peak in Blair, continue to cause flooding

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Friday morning updates show water levels on the Missouri River continue to rise at a slow pace. Many areas will continue to see levels staying well above flood stage for the remainder of the week and into the weekend.

This likely will further delays and the postpone the opening of I-29 and I-680, both closed around midnight Tuesday due to the rising floodwaters.

As of Friday morning, Blair has reached its peak by getting just above 32 feet. The river level at Blair is very slowly lowering and that will continue through Friday evening. The Missouri River at Blair is expected to drop below flood stage by Monday morning.

As for the Missouri River at Omaha, forecast height of the crest has been reduced slightly to 33.1 feet. This is now below the crest of the 2019 floods for the Missouri River at Omaha.

The river currently sits just shy of 32 feet with a little more than a foot more of rising expected through midday Saturday. After it peaks, the river will stay relatively level through the weekend but drop below flooding levels by Tuesday night.

The Missouri River at Plattsmouth remains at a minor flooding stage as it approaches 31 feet. It’s still forecasted to rise just over one more foot before its peak Saturday night. The river will start lowering by Sunday morning, and will reach below flooding levels by Wednesday morning.

The Missouri River at Nebraska City is now at just over 23 feet with it approaching its peak by Saturday night. This point on the Missouri River will start lowering by Sunday afternoon and is expected to drop below flooding levels by early Wednesday night.
