OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Douglas County Health Department and City of Omaha’s Stormwater Division are sounding the alarm about a harmful algal bloom at a west Omaha reservoir.

DCHD says the city analyzed samples from Candlewood Reservoir near 132nd and West Dodge Road, taken earlier this week. The results show total microcystin levels are above the threshold of eight parts per billion.

The public is advised not to swim in the reservoir for the duration of this alert. Recreational fishing and boating are permitted, but residents are asked to be careful and avoid exposure to the water -- particularly avoiding any activity that could lead to swallowing the water.

Pets should also not be let into the water or allowed to drink from the lake.
