Missouri River is cresting in several spots this weekend
River levels will gradually lower in the metro
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - As of Sunday morning the Missouri river in Omaha was just above 32 feet and was gradually lowering. This is after it had crested Saturday morning at a level of 32.79 feet. The river did slowly rise again very early Tuesday with the rainfall. However, it has again started to lower and the Omaha gauge should be back below flood level by Wednesday afternoon.
As water levels decline in Omaha and areas upstream we will monitor the current closures of I-29 and I-680.
As of Sunday Morning it appears the river has crested in the Plattsmouth area as well. The crest happened around midday Saturday and with levels slowly receding after that. However, after the heavy rainfall Monday night, the river has been rising again. As of 11 AM Tuesday, it is beginning to level off again; it will start to lower again soon but likely stay above flood stage through Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the river levels in Nebraska City crested Sunday afternoon and have been falling through Tuesday morning. Moderate flooding is occurring still and the river will likely go up some as the rainfall from Monday night works its way downstream. Lowering should resume early Wednesday with river levels get back below flood stage over the weekend.
