OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Saturday begins a stretch of three 6 First Alert Weather Days where the hot weather and high humidity will combine to create potentially dangerous conditions.

Temperatures will slowly climb over the coming days, pushing to near 90 by Friday afternoon. It’s not until the weekend that we start to see the really hot conditions, with low to mid-90s expected by Saturday, and mid to even upper 90s possible by Sunday and Monday. The heat will likely peak in the upper 90s, though highs near 100 are not out of the question.

With that combination of heat and humidity, the heat index will climb into the upper 90s by Friday, and will push above 100 degrees by Saturday. We’ll likely see the heat index, or feels like temperature, push into the 100 to 110 degree range each afternoon Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Sunday and Monday will be the days where the heat index is most likely to approach, or even exceed, 110 degrees.

When the heat index is near 110 degrees, overexposure to the elements can result in heat illness in just a short period of time. Make sure you factor in the heat to any outdoor plans, whether you will be working outdoors, or are just planning on spending the day outside. Have ways to stay cool, take breaks in the shade or the A/C, have plenty of water, and wear lightweight clothing.

In addition, overnight low temperatures will only be able to fall into the low and mid-70s, meaning that the body doesn’t have much opportunity to recover from the heat at night. This can lead to the impacts of the heat building day over day if proper precautions are not taken.

Relief is looking like it arrives Monday night as a cold front moves through the area, with slow cool down for the rest of next week.
