OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Generally sunny skies and a light north breeze made for another decent July afternoon for the Omaha metro. Temperatures warmed into the mid-80s once again, coming in just below the average high of 88 for the middle of July. A few clouds bubbled up in the warmth of the afternoon, but should fade away as we head through the later evening. Temperatures in the mid-80s will drop back into the 70s by 10pm. A little haze is hanging around as well, this is due to some wildfire smoke from Canada that has been pushed into our area. This shouldn’t have a large impact on our air quality, but you will notice that haze right on into Wednesday.

Wednesday morning will start off in the low to mid-60s with generally clear skies. We should see another decent July day, with temperatures climbing to around 80 by Noon, with afternoon highs once again in the mid and upper 80s, just a touch below average. There is a chance for a couple of spotty showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon hours. Most areas will likely stay dry, but if you find yourself under one of these storms, you can expect some brief heavy rain along with some lightning. The rain may also briefly cool temperatures a few degrees. Outside of any rain, highs should top out between 85 and 87 degrees for most of the metro. Any showers or storms will fade away as we head into the evening hours.

More sunshine and slowly climbing temperatures can be expected on Thursday and Friday, as highs push into the mid and upper 80s on Thursday, topping out around 90 by Friday. This will likely be the first 90 degree day of July, but certainly won’t be the last.

Some intense heat and humidity is expected by the weekend, as highs climb into the mid and even upper 90s. Saturday should see highs in the mid-90s, as highs climb into the upper 90s for Sunday and Monday. With the higher humidity levels in place, this will result in heat index readings in the 100 to 110 degree range each afternoon. When we are that hot, that will mean an increase in the risk for heat related illnesses for anyone spending an extended period of time outdoors. Make sure to have a way to stay cool, and stay hydrated through the weekend and into early next week.

A cold front will try to bring us a little relief from the more extreme heat by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. The front may come with some storms as well, though the timing on that is still a little uncertain. Temperatures should drop back into the mid and upper 80s for the second half of next week.
