David’s First Alert Forecast - Nice July evening before intense heat arrives
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The mild start to July continued today as temperatures slowly warmed into the mid-80s around the metro this afternoon. Certainly warm and a little humid, but still coming in slightly below average for this time of year. It should be a pretty nice July evening for most of area, with mostly sunny skies, light southeast winds, and temperatures dropping back into the 70s just after sunset. Clear skies and light winds will continue overnight with lows falling into the mid-60s.
Friday morning will still be pretty comfortable with temperatures in the 60s quickly warming into the 70s after sunrise. By Noon, we’ll already be pushing back into the mid-80s with plenty of sunshine. Friday afternoon will be a little more on the hot side, with highs climbing to around 90 degrees. This would be our first 90 degree day of the month, as the rest of July so far as has been a touch on the cool side compared to normal. Humidity levels will increase slightly on Friday as well, and this will likely push the heat index up 95 or so by late afternoon.
Even hotter weather is expected for the weekend, approaching potentially dangerous levels of heat and humidity if the proper precautions aren’t taken. Highs on Saturday push into the mid-90s, with highs on Sunday and Monday likely climbing into the upper 90s. Sunday is likely our best opportunity for making a run at 100 degrees.
When combined with the higher humidity levels expected, the heat index, or feels like temperatures will push above 100 degrees on Saturday. By Sunday and Monday, we’ll likely see the heat index approach 110 degrees both afternoon.
A cold front will move through Monday night into Tuesday and could kick off a few spotty storms. More importantly, it will drop temperatures back toward 90 degrees on Tuesday with perhaps slightly lower humidity. The somewhat cooler air will continue to filter in through the middle of next week, helping to drop high temperatures back down into the mid-80s, once again putting us back below average for July’s standards.
