OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The new drought monitor update on Thursday showed no drought categories in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa.

This is the first time this has happened since April of 2020.

Several years of drought had pushed most of the area into severe or extreme drought, with some spots even getting into exceptional, the highest on the scale.

However, several rounds of heavy rain over the past few months have eroded away at that drought.

Since the beginning of May, the official rain total at Eppley has been 17.6 inches (through the end of July 10th).

Omaha’s normal rainfall for that time frame is 10.29 inches. The short-term forecast does have the metro drying out with limited rain chances.
