6 First Alert Forecast - One more day before heat and humidity really begin to build
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Today will give us warm, but still below average, temperatures as we top out in the mid 80s.
It will be a little bit muggy, which will push the heat index to near 90 in the afternoon.
Still, this is cooler than what we will have over the coming days.
Friday is the transition day as we top out near 90.
The day starts with sunshine before some clouds build in the afternoon.
By the evening, there will be a small chance for a stray shower or storm, though most look to stay dry.
Saturday is the start of our three day stretch of 6 First Alert Days.
The temp will top out in the low to mid 90s with muggy conditions pushing the afternoon heat index into the triple digits.
Sunday and Monday see the high in the upper 90s and a heat index that could exceed 110.
These are conditions where heat illness can set in quickly; avoid extended time outdoors during peak heating if possible.
There are signs of improvement though; after another hot day Tuesday, we see the chance for storms Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Behind that front, we look likely to return to highs in the mid 80s for the back half of next week.
