6 First Alert Forecast - Nearing 90 degrees today with heat building through the weekend
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Heat will begin to build today with a high that ends up near 90 degrees.
Mugginess will continue to build through the day, pushing the afternoon heat index into the mid to upper 90s.
Some cloud cover will build as the day goes on, but that will not keep us from feeling the heat!
After sunset and especially overnight, a couple of storms will become possible south and west of the metro.
If any storms can develop, they may have gusty winds and some hail.
Temperatures will continue to climb through the weekend, with highs in the mid 90s Saturday and into the upper 90s Sunday and Monday.
Those three days are 6 First Alert Weather Days for the intense heat and humidity.
The heat index will push to near 105 Saturday afternoon and be near 110 Sunday and Monday afternoons.
An Excessive Heat Watch is in place for most of the area, including the metro, from midday Sunday through Monday evening.
Make sure you are limiting time outdoors during peak heating hours and staying hydrated.
Signs of relief arrive Monday night with a front that brings a chance of storms to the area.
Highs will be in the upper 80s Tuesday and stay in the mid 80s for the rest of the week.
