DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray TV Iowa State Capitol Bureau) - At 90, Iowa’s Chuck Grassley is the oldest member in the United States Senate. At 81, Joe Biden is the oldest president in history.

The two previously served together in the senate. Grassley is not joining some other Republicans in questioning Biden’s mental fitness for the job.

When asked by Gray TV Iowa if Grassley believes that Biden is mentally fit for the job, he responded, “I’m not going to dump on Biden.”

Grassley said that he will criticize Biden for policy differences but not about his age. “Either whether he’s capable of doing it or what his staff has done to presumably protect him...that’s a family matter for the Democrats. It’s a family matter for the Bidens,” Grassley said.

Biden has faced increased scrutiny since his performance in last month’s presidential debate when he appeared confused.

More than half of registered Democrats in a Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos Poll said that Biden should leave the race.

But Biden has maintained that he will continue his re-election campaign.
