OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Junior catcher Josh Caron and senior pitcher Brett Sears were both drafted on Monday. Caron was selected in the fourth round by the Seattle Mariners with the 121st overall pick, making the Wisconsin native the Huskers’ highest-drafted catcher since 1985 when Bill McGuire was chosen No. 27 overall by the Mariners.

Caron really found his stride in the batter’s box during the Big Ten Tournament, launching six home runs that week to break the record for home runs in the Big Ten Tournament. He was also named the Most Oustanding Player of the Big Ten Tournament.

Sears, Nebraska’s ace, was drafted in the seventh round by the Atlanta Braves with the No. 221 overall pick. The senior becomes the fifth Husker pitcher under current head coach Will Bolt to be drafted in the first ten rounds.

The Westphalia, Iowa native was a unanimous second-team All-American his senior year and tossed over 100 strikeouts in a season for the first time in program history since 2008.
