OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Scattered heavy downpours overnight decreased to a few spotty showers by early Saturday. Those showers mainly over portions of western Iowa, just to the east of the Omaha metro. A few spotty showers will continue through the morning hours, though coverage should continue to decrease. Cloudy skies remain over the metro, though there have been a few breaks in the clouds out toward Lincoln. Generally cloudy skies will likely stick around for most of the day, though any rain that lingers should be spotty and on the light side. Generally dry conditions are expected for most of the day outside of those spotty showers. The clouds and spotty showers will help to keep things quite mild for July, with afternoon highs only topping out in the mid-70s, more than 10 degrees below average for mid-July.

Clouds will break up some by the early evening hours, giving at least a little sunshine. A stray shower or two can’t be ruled out, but it should be generally dry through the evening, with temperatures dropping back into the 60s after sunset. Overnight, some patchy fog is possible with partly cloudy skies and lows in the lower 60s.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies will return on Sunday, though temperatures will be just a little warmer. Highs should climb to around 80 degrees by the late afternoon. That still puts us several degrees below average for this time of year. The chance for a few spotty showers or even a couple of storms will return for the afternoon. Any rain will be very hit and miss, so most locations will likely stay dry. It is difficult to say where any rain would pop up, so just be prepared for the potential of a brief downpour.

The potential for a few spotty showers or storms will continue Monday and Tuesday afternoon, though once again most areas will likely stay dry. We’ll see a slow warming trend for Monday and Tuesday, with highs back into the low and mid-80s by Tuesday.

Drier weather is expected by Wednesday as the warming trend continues. Sunny skies return for the rest of the week as some more summer-like heat and humidity starts to build back in. Highs by Thursday should reach the upper 80s, climbing to around 90 by Friday, and into the low 90s by next weekend.
