OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Partly cloudy skies gave way to a few spotty downpours Monday afternoon with temperatures climbing into the low and mid-80s for the Omaha metro. Where we did see those downpours, rainfall totals jumped up to around 1/4 or 1/2 inch, though most places did stay dry. Warm and humid conditions will continue for the evening hours as temperatures remain the low 80s with partly cloudy skies. A few spotty showers will remain possible through 7 or 8pm, but most of the area should remain dry. After sunset, any remaining showers will fade away with clouds thinning out as well. Temperatures will drop back into the 70s by 9pm.

Some patchy fog is possible once again overnight, though fog shouldn’t be too widespread going into Tuesday morning. Temperatures will settle into the mid-60s to start the day, with fairly humid conditions as well. Sunny skies in the morning will help temperatures to quickly warm back toward the 80s by the lunch hours. Just like the past few days, clouds will build by the early afternoon, and a few spotty showers or isolated thunderstorms will be possible for the afternoon and early evening. However, most locations will likely stay dry, and any rain that does develop should be brief. Afternoon high temperatures should reach the upper 80s, with the heat index likely climbing into the low 90s. It will feel quite a bit warmer than the past 4 or 5 days have been.

Similar conditions can be expected on Wednesday, with some clouds and isolated showers in the afternoon along with highs in the upper 80s. The warming trend continues through the end of the week, with highs near 90 on Thursday, pushing into the low 90s on Friday. By the upcoming weekend, highs likely climb into the mid-90s, some of the warmest weather we have seen since in well over a week.

As temperatures climb, the humidity will slowly increase as well. That combination of heat and humidity will result in heat index readings climbing toward 100 degrees by the end of the week, and could be approaching 105 degrees by early next week. It does appear that we could be in for a prolonged stretch of summer heat and humidity, potentially lasting through much of next week.
