6 First Alert Weather Day: Sunday begins stretch of intense heat
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Sunday begins a stretch of hot weather with highs in the mid 90s and above! We’ve made it a 6 First Alert Weather Day to mark the start of this long hot stretch, which likely continues into Thursday of next week.
Highs climb to the mid 90s Sunday, 95 for the Metro, with upper 90s not out of the question to the south any day. The potential for some stronger storms is increasing Sunday evening now too. That threat will need to be watched after 6pm.
A spotty t-shower cannot be ruled out through Wednesday and this will add to the humidity making it feel even hotter. The muggy meter will be pushing into the steamy zone during this time period.
This doesn’t slow the warm up! Heat likely peaks around Wednesday & Thursday as we climb close to 100 in Omaha... triple digits temperatures are likely in the viewing area.
With the humidity factored in we will feel more like 100-115 each afternoon next week. Stay hydrated, spend time indoors and if you are outside make sure to take frequent breaks in the shade and pay attention to signs of heat related illness. It is very likely that the heat will last all of next week. We’ll feel very little relief overnight as well... some nights we will struggle to cool below 80. Keep an eye on the 10 day forecast here through the following week.
