OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Police have identified the motorcyclist that was involved in a crash that closed a major route through Midtown on Monday morning.

OPD reported that Dhair Cruz, 22, died at the hospital on Monday afternoon from injuries.

Cruz was traveling eastbound above the posted speed limit around 7:50 a.m. and hit the side of a Ford E350 crossing Dodge Street at 38th Avenue.

The motorcycle punctured the truck’s gas tank, spilling fuel onto the ground. The smell of gasoline emanated from the scene.

The eastbound lanes of Dodge Street at 40th Street were closed for about three hours. Drivers were urged to use Harney or Farnam streets as alternate routes. This resulted in even slower traveling around ongoing construction the area.

Omaha Police said the investigation is ongoing.
