Smoky skies over the Omaha-metro to improve over the weekend
Local air quality impacted by fires on west coast in U.S., Canada
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - If you’ve stepped outside at any point over the past several days you likely have noticed a layer of smoky haze in the sky. This is being pulled in from fires burning on the west coast of the U.S. and Canada.
A ridge of high pressure to our SW is steering the smoke around the ridge and into our area with heavy smoke coverage in E Nebraska and W Iowa along with a good porting of the N and Central U.S.
Around the ridge the air is much more clear as it pushes the smoke to the N and E... This ridge will migrate slightly E into the weekend and this will push the worst f the smoke to our E.
In the meantime plan on thick smoke coverage Thursday night into Friday morning with noticeable thinning Friday night. Air quality will likely continue to sit at moderate at least through Friday but may improve more this weekend.
