OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Morning temperatures dipped into the low 70s across the metro with clear, but hazy skies. Plenty of sunshine is in store for today, along with more hot and humid conditions. Temperatures will warm back into the mid and upper 80s by the lunch hour, with afternoon highs topping out around 90 degrees. A few clouds may build in by the afternoon, but dry weather is expected across the entire area.

The combination of heat and humidity will lead to heat index readings climbing into the 90s by Noon, if not earlier. Peak heat index readings this afternoon top out around 96 degrees, so it will certainly be a very hot and steamy summer day. The heat index will likely remain in the 90s well into the evening hours.

More hot and humid weather is expected on Sunday as highs likely climb a couple more degrees into the low 90s for the Omaha metro. With the humidity, the heat index will likely top out between 98 and 100 degrees, just adding a little more intensity to the afternoon heat. There is some uncertainty in the afternoon as a few spotty storms are possible, which could cool temperatures a little for a few isolated locations. A few more spotty storms are possible in the evening and overnight, though most areas will likely not pick up much rainfall.

The most intense portion of this heat wave begins on Monday, as highs climb into the mid-90s and heat index readings climb above 100 degrees. The heat continues to build through Wednesday as highs climb into the upper 90s, with some potential for a few spots to reach 100 degrees on Wednesday. The heat index Wednesday afternoon likely pushes close to 110 degrees for some. After peaking on Wednesday, temperatures slowly come down through the rest of next week, though highs in the 90s likely stick with us through at least Friday.
