David’s Morning Forecast - Very spotty storm, otherwise warm and humid Sunday
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Showers and thunderstorms moving through central Nebraska were fading away early Sunday morning, but sending a batch of cloud cover into eastern Nebraska. The clouds will move into the metro mid-morning, and will likely stick around through early afternoon. There is a very slight chance for a spotty shower or storm as the batch of clouds moves in, but most areas will likely stay dry. The clouds will help to keep the more intense heat at bay for another day, with temperatures warming into the mid-80s by Noon, and afternoon highs around 90 degrees.
However, despite temperatures remaining close to what we saw yesterday, the humidity levels will likely increase slightly today. That will lead to a more uncomfortable feel outdoors this afternoon as the heat index climbs higher than Saturday. We’ll likely see peak heat index readings around 97 or 98 degrees late this afternoon into the early evening before cooling back into the 80s after sunset.
There is another chance for some spotty storms later night into Monday, however the coverage looks relatively limited once again. The best chances for rain appear to be closer to the South Dakota and Minnesota borders in northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa. Don’t count on the rain to keep your yard watered as we head into the hottest stretch of this heat wave. Depending on the coverage of that rain Monday morning, some areas could actually be a bit cooler on Monday, however at this point it’s best to anticipate the more intense heat arriving Monday afternoon as highs climb into the mid-90s.
High temperatures will continue to climb into the upper 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday. The hottest conditions are likely on Wednesday as highs push close to 100 degrees for some. With the humid conditions, we will see heat index readings of 100 to 110 degrees each day Monday through Wednesday, with the peak on Wednesday. Temperatures start to slowly drop a little on Thursday, falling back into the lower 90s by Friday.
