6 First Alert: Intense heat returns Wednesday, storm threat Tuesday and Wednesday
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Tuesday has been “cooler” for many thanks to some unexpected storm outflow this morning and spotty PM showers.... The S edge of the viewing area is still quite hot, this is where Heat Advisories remain in place until 8PM.
While the most intense heat may have briefly subsided, we are still on First Alert thanks to a storm threat tonight.
Storm development is still a bitt uncertain thanks to a pretty messy atmosphere... but if they do manage to form, they will develop to the NW after 8PM and move E. As storms roll E they would organize into a line and strengthen posing a high wind risk. These likely move out of W Iowa by 1-2AM.
Wednesday starts out with sunshine and humidity... we will warm fast! It is another 6 First Alert Weather Day for intense heat, but also an increasing severe threat.
Temperatures climb quickly ahead of an approaching PM front. This will give us a boost to the upper 90s, even a few 100s before it arrives with a storm chance. The Heat Index will sit near 110!
Storms fire up to the W as early as 2-3PM but likely don’t strengthen to severe levels until after 4PM. By 8PM storms are likely E of the Metro and they will exit W Iowa around 10PM. The main severe risk is once again strong wind.
We’ll cool off behind the front with a dip to the low 90s Thursday and upper 80s Friday! We’ll rebound through the start of next week with a more substantial cool down by the end of the 10 day forecast.
