Wednesday’s peak wind gusts & storm track recap
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The 5pm to 7pm window on July 31st across our area was quite damaging thanks to a fast moving line of storms that raced west to east. Wind gusts peaked near 90 mph in many spots including a 90 mph gust at Eppley Airfield.
Many areas around the metro experienced 60-90 mph wind gusts several times over a half hour window as the storm moved through. This unrelenting wind cause the majority of the damage but there were a couple reports of brief tornadoes too. It will be tough to determine if there were any additional tornadoes among the widespread straight line wind damage. Damage is damage at this point and many people have a lot of cleanup ahead. You can see the path of the storm based on the storm reports that were submitted.
