LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Friday’s media availability was all about the offense. Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas, offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, and quarterbacks Heinrich Haarberg, Daniel Kaelin, and Dylan Raiola took the podium following the Huskers’ third practice of preseason camp.

Nebraska has five quarterbacks on their 120-man preseason camp roster at the moment: Haarberg, Kaelin, Raiola, Northwestern College transfer Jalyn Gramstad, and Blair [product Bode Soukup.

The Huskers’ quarterback battle continues as a starter remains to be named.

“Every day is a measurement,” said Thomas on a timeline for choosing a starter. “We’re in the early process of that as far as early decisions.”

Raiola, the five-star true freshman, is still very much in contention for the starting job. Thomas says Raiola’s leadership has shown in two big ways.

“There’s a mannerism and an aurora about [Raiola’s leadership],” said Thomas. “There’s a confidence that you hear in tone of voice and being vocal. Someone runs the wrong route and you let them know or just the confidence of a protection call.”

“Every day it’s just go out there and compete,” said Raiola. “Obviously, everyone on the team knows there’s a competition.”

After starting eight games for the Huskers last season and leading Nebraska to a 5-3 record, Haarberg brings experience along with several other attributes to a young quarterbacks room.

“Just a competitor, character, humility, worth ethic, wants to do it right,” said Thomas about Haarberg. “Just everything you’re looking for really. I’ve been really really impressed on a lot of levels with him.”

Nebraska Athletics along with 1890 Nebraska are holding a ticketed open practice called “Big Red Preview” this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium. Tickets to the Big Red Preview are $25 per person with all proceeds going to 1890 Nebraska. There will be no sales on the day of the event.
