OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Sunday morning started off in the upper 60s and low 70s. However, temperatures quickly warmed into the 90s this afternoon, topping out in the upper 90s for most of the metro. The high in Omaha so far has been 98 degrees, the heat index between 100 and 102 degrees for most of the metro. Thankfully, humidity levels dropped for the afternoon helping to keep the heat index in check for most of the area.

It will stay very hot through the evening hours, still in the mid to upper 90s through 8pm. We won’t see a lot of relief after dark, as we will likely still be in the mid-80s at 10pm. After Midnight we should finally cool into the 70s, with overnight lows in the mid-70s for most of the metro

Monday's First Alert Forecast

Monday will bring one more very hot day to the area, perhaps the hottest of this latest stretch. The one question mark is the amount of cloud cover, we may see more clouds on Monday than we did on Sunday which may hold temperatures down a degree or two, but it will still be very hot any way you look at it. Temperatures start off in the mid-70s during the morning, but we should already be back in the 90s by Noon with afternoon highs in the upper 90s.

Humidity levels will once again be noticeable, but not as high as they were a couple weeks ago. That means the heat index will still climb above 100 degrees, but should top out around 102 to 103 degrees for the Omaha metro. Still hot enough to be a concern if you will be working outside or still do not have power restored. Make sure to have ways to stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.

Sunday Evening 3 Day Forecast

A cold front will move through the area late Monday evening bringing an increase in clouds, but likely moving through without any rainfall. Temperatures will start to drop after sunset, and should be in the 60s after Midnight, giving a little relief from the intense afternoon heat. Highs on Tuesday should only reach the low 80s, with mid-80s on Wednesday. The rest of the week will feature more reasonable temperatures, as highs remain in the low to mid-80s through the upcoming weekend.

Rain chances return on Wednesday, with some scattered storms possible Wednesday evening or overnight, lasting into Thursday. More storm chances are trying to show up for Friday into the weekend, but data has been inconsistent so far, so the rain chances remain on the low side for now.
