OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Temperatures this morning were reasonably comfortable, starting off in the upper 60s and low 70s. However, it will be heating up quickly today with plenty of sunshine. A few clouds may be rolling through at times providing a little shade, especially this afternoon, but expect generally sunny skies. Temperatures will warm into the 90s by Noon, and continue to climb throughout the afternoon. Highs likely top out between 96 and 98 degrees for the Omaha metro, and may be even slightly hotter for areas just southwest of Omaha.

Humidity levels should remain a little lower than what we have seen in past weeks, but we’ll still see enough humidity in the air to push the heat index above 100 degrees. During the hottest part of the day, the late afternoon and early evening, you can expect heat index readings around 102 degrees. If you will still be out cleaning up storm damage, or still are without power, try to find ways to stay cool. Make sure to stay hydrated, and take breaks from the heat if you can.

A cold front will move through Monday evening, finally bringing a bit of a break from the more intense heat. The front appears to move through dry, no rain or storms expected at this time. Temperatures should drop into the 60s by Tuesday morning with highs in the mid-80s for the rest of the week. Our next best shot as some showers and storms will come Wednesday night into Thursday.

Temperatures should remain in the mid-80s through the upcoming weekend. There are some signs of a potentially wetter weather pattern by the weekend into next week, but rain chances at this point remain on the low side as those rain chances remain rather inconsistent in the long range forecast data.
