PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - Instead of playing for gold, some people in Papillion played volleyball for a cause Saturday.

It was the fourth annual Honoring Kingston Sand Volleyball Fundraiser at Sinnot’s Sand Bar, in memory of 1-year-old Kingston Goracke, who drowned almost five years ago.

New to the event this year was a cornhole tournament.

Proceeds went toward the Infant Swimming Resource (ISR), which helps enroll young children in scholarships for swim survival courses.

Kingston’s mother, Tasha, said last year’s event raised around $30,000. She thinks they’ll surpass that this year.

“With the support and everybody’s generosity, they’re bringing back towards “Honoring Kingston” the capability for us to be able to give out scholarships to so many little kids,” she said. And there with that, the opportunity to learn the ISR lessons and learn those skills to know how to float in the water in case they get into that situation.”

Goracke said participation has grown. Thirty-three teams competed in Saturday’s tournament compared to 30 last year.
