OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The morning round of storms with heavy rain and frequent thunder and lightning is exiting to the east rather quickly on this 6 First Alert Weather Day. Most of it will be done by 7am which should help out with the morning commute. Also some great news for all the schools getting started today as well.

We’ll get a chance to warm up on this muggy day with a high in the mid 80s likely for most of us in the metro. More heat is likely south of I-80 and that will be the fuel for our next round of storms that tries to develop after 6pm.

That second round likely won’t be as widespread but will try to be stronger with some severe storms possible. Hail & wind are the main threats but a tornado is possible from a storm or two. The tornado risk has trended up a bit now that we know how the atmosphere looks after the morning storms.

This round should linger no later than midnight then we’ll be able quiet down and get a decent night of sleep. Another warm day in the 80s is likely Thursday and we could see a few more spotty showers and storms in the PM hours. Those look weaker and shouldn’t have a huge impact.
